Nikk is a freelance science and environmental journalist based in Santa Cruz, CA, and a science journalism intern at Science News. He is also a graduate student in the U.C. Santa Cruz Science Communication Program.

He has written for Science, Scientific American, Science NewsThe ScientistInside Science, Eos, Mongabay, the San Jose Mercury News, San Jose Inside, and the Monterey Herald, and his work has been republished by outlets like ABC News, Yahoo News, Astronomy, and the East Bay Times.

Nikk holds a M.S. geology from McGill University, and previously conducted research at the U.S. Geological Survey. Though his scientific experience is grounded in rocks, his journalism spans a wide range of topics, from firefighting tactics to toxic rice to self-mutilating sea sponges.
